Hourly Movers: What Your Rate Should Include Before You Book
By the Round Rock Affordable Movers crew · October 20, 2026 · 4 min read
With hourly movers, you pay for time worked times your crew's hourly rate, usually with a minimum. Before you book, ask when the clock starts and stops, whether drive time counts, whether there's a truck fee, and whether pads, tape, and furniture wrapping are included.
How hourly moving pricing works
Hourly pricing is the most common way local movers charge in Central Texas. The math is simple: hours worked times your crew's hourly rate, plus a truck fee if the move needs a moving truck.
At Round Rock Affordable Movers, rates start at $100 per hour for 2 movers on easy moves (no stairs, short distance, not many items), any day on a first-come, first-served basis. Most moves run $120–$150 per hour for 2 movers. There's a 2-hour minimum, and the truck fee is $100–$150 only when your move needs our moving truck.
5 questions to ask any hourly mover
- ✓When does the clock start and stop? (Ours runs from when the crew starts your job until the last item is placed, including drive time between homes.)
- ✓What's the minimum? (Ours is 2 hours.)
- ✓Is there a truck fee, and is it flat?
- ✓Does the rate change with more movers? (Bigger crews have a higher hourly rate but often finish faster.)
- ✓What costs extra? (For us, only packing materials when we do the packing.)
What should be included at no extra charge
- ✓Moving pads and blankets
- ✓Tape and furniture wrapping
- ✓Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly, like bed frames
- ✓Dollies and straps
- ✓Placing furniture in the rooms you want
How to keep your hourly move short
Every minute counts on an hourly move, so a little prep saves real money. Have boxes packed and taped, clear paths through the house, reserve the elevator if you have one, and save a parking spot close to the door. If you're on the fence about crew size, ask us. Sometimes 3 movers finish a big move faster and cheaper than 2.
